Congratulations to our February Hometown Heroes Kay Werk and Lt. Geroge Wallce. Kay is widely known among Columbus firefighters. She was inducted into the OSU College of Social Work Hall of Fame for her work helping to develop the division’s critical incident stress management program. Unfortunately, Kay suffered a serious stroke 10 years ago. Lt. George Wallace received a call for a medic run to Kay’s address after she was injured in a fall. Lt. Wallace noticed that Kay’s house was not set-up for someone with a disability. Lt. Wallace, along with the help of Columbus Fire Station 17, renovated Kay’s house to make it more accessible for her.
